Holmes Dyer was engaged to prepare a small lot housing concept for a former school site at Abbotsfield Road, Claremont, in Hobart’s northern suburbs. The site offers elevated views over and, access to, sporting grounds, clubrooms and open space.
The scheme delivered 98 two and three bedroom dwellings in a Freehold Title arrangement on allotments of around 100 – 180m2, compared with the previously approved 55 dwelling Strata Title scheme. Futhermore, the scheme provided for an outlook over the adjacent sporting fields and access via public road frontage to Abbotsfield Park.
Narrow road reserve concepts were prepared for presentation to Glenorchy City Council to demonstrate how attractive, vegetated streetscapes could be delivered while still providing for all necessary service infrastructure.
The small lot and housing sizes sought to limit costs to provide an affordabe housing outcome for the area.
